March 5
Millcreek
Elevations, slope angles and aspects:
6400-10000', angles over 35°, all aspects.
Avalanche activity:
One small new snow slide was initiated ski cutting on the shoulder of Soldier Fork at about 8800'.
It was only 15' wide and up to 4" deep, running less than 20' . Slope angle was around 38°. The slide was the result of a little recent wind load on a crust, with a bit of light density.
There was also some surface sluffing on steep north facing.
Slopes skied:
Reynolds northeast facing, Big Water Fred's northeast facing, Soldier Fork north facing, and Wilson shoulder north facing.
Snow conditions:
Trace-2" new snow over mostly crusted base, with soft settled snow found on shady aspects. Crusts on other aspects were mostly breakable. North facing ridge lines are scoured, with several inches of boilerplate-satstrugi lingering where snow lingers.
Weather:
Overcast, with light snow showers at times. Winds were light Cool temperatures.
Evaluation:
Snow is mostly stable. Shallow sensitive wind drifts may remain active because of cool temperatures.
